NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 25, 2003) -- Reed Rides Bridgestone Tires to Season Championship

The Bridgestone Motorcycle Racing program collected its second major title of 2003 when Team Yamaha rider Chad Reed earned this year’s FIM World Supercross Championship. Earlier this year, James “Bubba” Stewart won the AMA 125cc Supercross West Championship riding a Bridgestone-equipped Kawasaki.

Reed, in his first full year on a 250cc machine in the United States, won the last six consecutive events in the competition and amassed a total of 401 points when the season ended May 2 at Las Vegas. The 2003 THQ 250cc World Supercross GP action encompassed 17 events, starting with two outside the United States in December 2002 (at Geneva, Switzerland, and Arnhem, Holland). Reed also finished second in the 2003 250cc AMA Supercross Championship, which includes the 15 competitions of the THQ 250cc World Supercross Championship conducted within the United States.

“We are extremely proud to be a part of the winning effort put together by Chad and Team Yamaha,” said Bob Graham, manager of Bridgestone/Firestone motorcycle and kart racing programs. “At this level of competition, riders must have the best of the best equipment and service to win a championship. We’re pleased the Bridgestone tires Chad used all season long gave him the performance characteristics he needed. We congratulate him for the title, and look forward to working with him as he wins more in the future.”

Reed’s championship is one of 23 major titles won by Bridgestone riders in the last eight years. Others include:
